Kindergarten Matisse Projects!

The Kindergarten students have been looking at Matisse art-work for the last couple weeks.  We learned the word "mimic" and copied shapes that Matisse used in his art-work.

After drawing the Matisse mimics we worked on emulating the cut paper work by Matisse.  Together, the Kindergarten classes made large scale art-work.  The students did a great job with their shapes and learned how impressive their art-work can be when they collaborate!

Fall Trees

Gustav Klimt

The second graders looked at a painting by Gustav Klimt and then emulated his style in their own painting.

My Many Colored Days

The 3rd grade students read Dr. Seuss' book "My Many Colored Days" and then created a painting in the same style as the illustrations.
Each painting depicts the many different emotions we have through color.

4th-6th grade self portraits

The 4th through 6th grade students have been working on proportional drawing, and have just finished their self portraits!

Day of the Dead!

To celebrate "Day of the Dead" and to add artwork to the 1st grade performance all of the 1st graders made skulls.

The students made their artwork with paper mache and crayons.

1st grade parents...Be sure to look for your students artwork outside of the gym tomorrow during the performance!

Andy Goldsworthy!

The K, 2nd and 3rd grade classes learned about artist, Andy Goldsworthy over the past two weeks.  Andy Goldsworthy creates artwork with natural materials. As a class, we focused on creating lines, shapes patterns and other designs with natural materials. This past week we had a great time creating natural art installations in the rock garden at Coonley.  Enjoy our pictures!

Some students used natural elements to highlight or bring attention to parts of the rock garden that would normally go unnoticed.

 Students worked together to create larger pieces of art, such as this leaf line which was over 25 ft. long!

 Natural materials were used to show the students understanding of pattern.

With each design, a great amount of creativity and fun was shared :)
